If You Take Amtrak to OSW

Getting to the hotel is somewhat complicated by the number of ways you can come into the San Francisco Bay Area by train.

You can come in from the north on the Coast Starlight. You can come in from the east on the California Zephyr. You can come in from Los Angeles on the Coast Starlight; perhaps continuing on from another train that terminated in Los Angeles.

Things are further complicated by train arrival schedules. You should be prepared to alter your plans if your train is late. Be sure to bring with you schedules for connecting trains such the Capitol Corridor and VTA Light Rail so that you can adjust to an adverse arrival time. In an extreme situation, ride sharing services such as Uber and Lyft are very popular and convenient in the Bay Area, and you will find it easy to use one of those services to get to OSW.

From the Southbound Starlight or Westbound California Zephyr

From the Southbound Starlight

The Coast Starlight does not stop at the Great America station (GAC). Trains known as the Capitol Corridor trains do stop there, so you will need to transfer to a Capitol Corridor train. This can be done as early as Sacramento, or at Emeryville.

From the Westbound California Zephyr

The California Zephyr terminates at Emeryville (Oakland). You will want to catch a Capitol Corridor train there.

From a Capital Corridor Train

From the Great America (GAC) station it is about a 3/4 mile easy walk to the hotel if your luggage and the weather work for you. If you prefer to take a taxi, there are usually taxis at the station; if none are there, call the Hyatt Regency at 408-200-1234 who will send a taxi to pick you up. Note that ride sharing services such as Uber and Lyft are very popular and convenient in the Bay Area, and you will find it easy to use one of those services to get to OSW.

From the Northbound Starlight

This train does not stop at the Great America station (GAC). Your best bet is to terminate your ticket at San Jose. From there you can board a Northbound Capital Corridor train and exit at the next station, Great America (GAC).

Alternatively, you can get off at San Jose, locate the VTA light rail Diridon Station (down the walkway tunnel from platforms, go in the direction away from the depot building), get on a VTA light rail car with the destination Mountain View. Get off the Light Rail train at the stop named Great America Parkway; the Hyatt Regency will be to your right as you face the direction in which the train was traveling. This option takes you straight to the hotel without additional transfers. Amtrak staff in the station should be able to provide directions for this. The Light Rail in the area of the Hyatt Regency runs down Tasman Drive past the Hyatt Regency. Click here for information about viewing the hotel's location on a map. Walking to the Hyatt Regency from the Great America Station

To view the Great America (GAC) station's location relative to the Hyatt Regency on a map, go to the Amtrak
web site. Then click on Destinations (upper left of the screen). On the next page click on "TRIP PLANNING MAP". You will see a map of the United States. Zoom in using the "+" sign in the lower right corner of the map. You will have to move the map horizontally and vertically in order to keep San Jose on the map. At some point during enlarging you will see above the San Jose place name the number 237 inside an oval and to its right a circle. The circle represents the Great America (GAC) station. Keep this circle on your screen as you continue to zoom in. Eventually you will see the station name in blue letters. You now can see the intersection of Tasman Drive and Great America Parkway due West (left on the map) of the station. The Hyatt Regency is at the Northeast corner of this intersection.

Walking Route

Tasman Drive passes over the station. To get to it, facing away from the tracks, walk away from them at a slight angle to the right. You will come to a short ramp to Tasman Drive. Turn right on Tasman Drive. You will pass Levi's Stadium across the street, then pass a parking structure on your right, cross a creek on a bridge, then arrive at the Santa Clara Convention Center on your right. Enter the Convention Center through the main entrance and proceed to the left past the escalators. When you arrive at some double doors, the O Scale West registration desk will be on your right if you arrive during the hours when it is open. Pass through the doors and you are in the Hyatt Regency. Keep walking until you reach the registration desk.

If you continue on the sidewalk past the Convention Center, when you reach the intersection of Tasman Drive and Great America Parkway, the Hyatt hotel is on your right.
