COLLECTIONS AND ESTATES

Unfortunately it seems that every year a few collections and estates are brought to OSW for dispostion. When OSW knows in advance of collections and estates that will be available at the show, we will add them to this page.

Here is what we know about so far.

  1. Some of you may now that Norm Buckhart of Protocraft had fire damage to his P48 layout during the Sonoma fires of October, 2017. In addition to damage to brass rolling stock from the heat, there was also water damage resulting from firefighters' efforts. The damaged equipment and structures that could not be salaged will be available for sale at OSW.
  2. Jim Vail, a very well known modeler, passed away January 28. Here is a brief bio, courtesy of Bob Brown, former publisher of the Narrow Gauge and Short Line Gazette:
Jim Vail passed away January 28, 2018. Some of his friends will have his magnificent HO/HOn3 layout open during O -Scale West. Jim inspired thousands of model railroads over the past 30 years through his articles in The Narrow Gauge and Short Line Gazette and other magazines. He also gave clinics and held many open houses. Don't miss seeing his wonderful and inspiring layout.

His daughter will have some of his items available at O Scale West. Here is the description of the items she will have:
Estate Sale - Many items from Jim Vail's HOn3 Glenwood & Black Creek railroad will be available for sale at the convention along with books, kits, and modeling supplies. The G&BC will be open for visitors on Sunday, May 27th. This will likely be the last open house for this marvelous railroad before its removal. Additional railroad related estate items will be available for sale during the open house including artwork (including a number of originals), prototype artifacts, HOn3, HO standard gauge and G gauge locomotives and rolling stock.

Information about Jim's layout and visiting it is HERE.
